What a trip...

I left Anchorage after spending 5 days in wonderful sunshine & wicked hot temps of the low to mid - 60's. I was well rested thanks to my gracious host, Garrett, pictured below in an action shot on our outing to Thunderbird Falls.

What a trip to the Kenai so far! I started raining before I even made it out of town. Oh well, when given lemons, make lemonade, right? I'm trying & I'd say succeeding.
Given the rain, I passed right on passed my planned first stop, the hippie alpine ski town of Girdwood. Afterall, no one wants to ski in the rain. Even the below attraction didn't cause me to flinch. On to Homer on the southwest tip of the Kenai, I pressed.

Here are some of the cool & interesting sights that I happened upon on my first day down south.

(Above) The Lake below Portage Glacier on the way to Valdez. Icebergs from the calving glacier. Followed by a pic in the opposite direction. (Below) Self-portrait: exploring the hidden beauties at a rest stop.

(Below) Scenes from the Western Kenai coast at Clam Gulch State Rec Area where fishing, clamming, litter, & driving on the beach reign. I drove Mr. Supersube down to the beach, after heeding the posted warnings.

Eagle hanging out up top embankment.

The sand was super dark.

A little drive further down the road brought me to my resting place for the night...

I overnighted it the back of Supersube. Comfy enough (being 5'4" is pretty handy), but it's just so light outside & who likes sleeping at a wayside (answer: only cheap people...and they don't like it, they're just the only ones who do it).

All that and we're not even to Homer yet. Stay tuned for the next installment.
